Dance Matters

Dance has flourished at Brenau, benefiting not only students but everyone who enjoys and appreciates a diverse offering of modern, ballet, contemporary, tap, jazz, world dance and musical theater. We are committed to providing opportunities for students to present and produce creative work, become skilled and knowledgeable dance educators, choreographers, performers and advocates for dance for all. Additionally, the faculty and students are focused on establishing and strengthening connections with the community through community dance classes and performances, collaborations with university departments, and excellent productions. The Department of Dance has risen steadily in stature, joining the elite company of major dance programs. In addition, the program has grown and prospered, offering new initiatives like internships at Gus Giordano in Chicago and The Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville, Georgia. With each and every gift, alumni and friends of Brenau make the university’s mission a reality: Students are taught and inspired, innovation and creativity is sought and achieved, and communities around are served and connected — all thanks to the support of generous donations. The Department of Dance is affecting real change every day because of you.

Description

The Department of Dance at Brenau University is invested in fostering artistic growth and knowledge in young artists.

Donations are applied to...

Donations will be applied to travel and registration to conferences nationally and internationally. This will assist students in presenting their work to other scholars as well as expanding their knowledge and network base. In addition, we are seeking the assistance from the community to garner financial support to purchase pertinent items for the department. Those items are, but not limited to, a portable sprung floor, marley floor to lay across proscenium stages or portable floors, and equipment to add to the Pilates conditioning room created by the late professor of dance Jolie Long Carlton.

Why are donations necessary?

This campaign will support in maintaining and creating resources for students to succeed. Currently, we offer a Bachelor of Arts in dance with concentrations in dance/movement therapy, jazz/musical theater, advanced ballet, pedagogy and modern. In addition, students have opportunities to double major in a discipline of their interest.
